Harnessing the Power of the Body-Mind Connection
The mind and body share a nourishing, symbiotic relationship that brings about profound results. This body-mind relationship lies at the heart of Pilates.
It is the method of breathing through each movement that creates and enhances the body-mind connection. It is the synergy between the breath patterns and movements that provide each client with feeling of well-being at the end of each session.
With a consistent Pilates practice, you will become much more aware of how your body moves and how you breathe in your day-to-day life. With practice, you can develop a body-mind connection that can assist you with decreasing your stress by tuning in and using your breath to help relax and release the stress you are holding in your body.
The body-mind connection helps you learn to use your thoughts to positively influence some of your body’s physical responses, thereby decreasing stress. If you recall a time when you were happy, grateful or calm, your body and mind were probably relaxed instead of stressed.
Research has shown that when you imagine an experience, you often have similar mental and physical responses to those you had when the event actually happened. For example, if you recall an upsetting or frightening experience, you may feel your heart beating faster, you may begin to sweat, and your hands may become cold and clammy.
Why hold on to stress when it doesn’t serve you?
